Russian ice climbing champion Alena Vlasova died from complications following encephalitis.
This became known on October 8 from a message on the website of the Russian Mountaineering Federation .

Vlasova was injured while relaxing in nature in early June of this year.
The athlete's condition deteriorated sharply towards the end of the month.
Vlasova required hospitalization for medical care and subsequently fell into a coma.
The current Russian champion died three months later on a ventilator.
The hospital stressed that the situation was aggravated by pneumonia.
The deceased Vlasova left behind a husband and a minor daughter.
The athlete became the national champion and the winner of the national cup. Vlasova is a multiple prize winner in the discipline "ice climbing - speed".
