The 23-year-old athlete suffered a serious injury to another eye and now his career is over.
Dmitry Dvali did not simply watch as a crowd of adult men beat up a minor.
The incident took place in Feodosia on July 28. The boxer himself told TASS about it.
The athlete and his cutman (a specialist who prepares a fighter's body for bodily injury in the ring) were training on the embankment.
At that moment, they saw a group of men beating a teenage boy.
Dvali and his coach decided to stand up for the young man. During the scuffle, Dmitry suffered a fractured orbital bone and a severe eye injury.
He will undergo surgery in Moscow on August 5 to save his eye. But Dvali is already saying that the damage to his other eye is the end of his sports career.
The boxer's trainer was also injured. The cutman suffered a broken arm after a skirmish with an aggressive crowd.
Dvali was in the prime of his boxing career. By the age of 23, he had become the champion of Russia and Europe in the 54 kg weight category.
