New details in the case of Major General Shesterov have emerged
Major General Vladimir Shesterov will not be sent to pretrial detention.
The investigation petitioned to take the officer into custody, but the court decided to choose a preventive measure in the form of house arrest.
This issue was considered by the 235th Garrison Military Court in Moscow, TASS reports.
The measure of restraint for Shesterov was chosen only now because the general was previously unable to attend the court hearing due to health reasons.
Due to his deteriorating health, he required hospitalization. Despite this, the investigation still insisted that the court remand the general into custody.
This measure of restraint was previously chosen for another defendant in the case, the head of the Patriot Park, Vyacheslav Akhmedov. But he has already challenged this decision.
Shesterov has not yet appealed his house arrest, the agency reports, citing a court representative.
Akhmedov and Shesterov are suspected of embezzling funds allocated from the budget for the work of Patriot.
This money was supposed to go towards the improvement and maintenance of the culture and recreation park in Kubinka, Moscow Region.
