Another high-ranking military official has been arrested in Moscow.
Former head of the Ministry of Defense's clothing department, Vladimir Demchik, has been sent into custody.
The Investigative Committee's press service reported this. The statement was published on the agency's Telegram channel.
Demchik was arrested on suspicion of accepting a bribe. The former official was sent to custody by decision of the 235th Garrison Military Court. The investigation petitioned for his arrest.
A retired colonel, deputy general director of the Textile Trading Company LLC, is accused of receiving a bribe on an especially large scale.
The investigation established that in the spring of 2017, the head of a commercial organization gave Demchik a bribe of 4 million rubles.
In return, the general director counted on patronage from a high-ranking military official.
The bribe-giver wanted Demchik to ensure his company's participation in the execution of state contracts. We are talking about the supply of various equipment for the Russian Armed Forces.
Law enforcement officers found out that in 2017-2018, Tekstilnaya Torgovaya Kompaniya was engaged in the execution of such contracts. 26 contracts worth 574 million rubles were signed.
A case may also be opened against the bribe-giver. This issue is currently under consideration.
