Man Damages WWII Memorial in Novgorod Region

In the Novgorod region, memorial wreaths located near the memorial complex to participants of the Great Patriotic War were damaged.

Details were reported by TASS with reference to the senior assistant to the head of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation for the Novgorod Region, Anastasia Sadrieva.

This incident occurred on Tuesday night. The scene was Victory Park in Staraya Russa.

It is noted that the accused decided to burn the wreaths at the specified location.

According to Sadrieva, a criminal case has now been opened under the article on damage to a cultural heritage site of regional significance.

She noted that the actions of the attacker resulted in damage to the memorial.

It is also known that thanks to the coordinated work of the police, the perpetrator was detained.

According to the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs, the criminal was a 31-year-old man, a resident of Moscow. He fully admitted his guilt.

It is added that the man was taken into custody. The investigation is ongoing.
