The lieutenant general has been removed from his post as Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces.
Details of Vadim Shamarin’s case were revealed by his lawyer Igor Dyukin.
The defense attorney claims that during the investigation the general was not fired, but suspended, RIA Novosti reports.
This decision was made back in May 2024. According to Dyukin, Shamarin was “taken off the payroll.”
The lawyer also reported that last spring the court seized a Mercedes-Benz GLE-class.
The crossover was purchased in November 2022 on credit and was registered to the general's wife. The cost of the car at that time was estimated at more than 20 million rubles.
In addition, the court blocked Shamarin’s salary card, the agency clarifies.
On July 18, the 235th Garrison Military Court (Moscow) granted the petition to extend the lieutenant general’s arrest until October 21.
The meeting was held behind closed doors. The press was allowed to attend only when the decision was announced.
