General Popov has been charged with forgery

The former commander of the 58th Army, Major General Ivan Popov, has been charged in the final version.

The Investigative Committee added a charge of official forgery to his charges.

Popov is accused of committing crimes under Article 159 and Article 292 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, but he does not admit guilt, TASS reports.

Military investigators presented the arrested Popov with the final version of the charges.

He is suspected of fraud on an especially large scale. He is also charged with official forgery, which resulted in a significant violation of the rights and interests of citizens, organizations, society or the state.

Penalties under these articles provide for up to 10 and 4 years of imprisonment, respectively.

The case materials will be sent to the prosecutor's office for approval of the indictment.

Earlier it was reported that another defendant had been arrested in the case of General Popov.
