In Kuzbass, the police demonstrated how those guilty of a crime can be found even after a considerable period of time.
The man who killed a child in 2007 was found in 2024 and sentenced to 16 years in prison.
The press service of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation for the Kemerovo Region reported this on its Telegram channel.
The defendant confessed when irrefutable evidence obtained by law enforcement officers was presented.
The court found the man guilty of aggravated murder and sentenced him to 16 years' imprisonment in a maximum security penal colony.
The accused was also ordered to pay 2 million rubles in favor of the relatives of the murdered woman.
As the investigation found out, on July 22, 2007, an eight-year-old girl left home for a walk in the city of Kemerovo. However, she did not return home that same day.
An organized search for the minor resulted in her body being found the following day.
It turned out that the girl had been strangled, but it was not possible to immediately identify the killer.
Investigators pulled out all the stops. They interviewed about 600 witnesses, examined 70 CCTV recordings, and examined 2,500 phone call records and about 3,400 vehicles.
The necessary examinations were also ordered. As a result, the investigators obtained convincing evidence, which led them to the convicted person.
