It has become known in which country the first case of monkeypox infection was recorded outside of Africa.
The first case of the dangerous disease was discovered in Sweden.
This information was shared by the TASS agency, citing a statement made by the acting director general of the Swedish Public Health Authority, Olivia Wigzell.
As a representative of the Swedish Ministry of Health noted, the victim contracted a more contagious version of the disease mpox, better known as monkeypox, while in one of the regions of Africa.
It was here that the outbreak of a dangerous disease occurred.
The patient went to a medical facility in Stockholm, where the virus was detected.
It is noted that this is the first case where monkeypox has been recorded somewhere outside of Africa.
Let us recall that mpox is a disease characteristic of Africa, which is transmitted from wild animals to humans. The mortality rate during its outbreaks can reach from 1 to 10%.
