88 Bribe Takers Identified in Russian Defense Industry Complex

Alexander Bastrykin said that the number of criminal cases on corruption in Russia has increased by 14%.

The statement by the Chairman of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation is published by the agency’s press service on its Telegram channel.

In January-June 2024, law enforcement officers sent criminal cases on corruption in the defense industry to the courts against 88 defendants. 48 people will be tried for accepting bribes.

The head of the department emphasized that the Investigative Committee must strictly suppress the activities of bribe-takers in the defense industry.

Any attempts to steal or misappropriate public funds must be met with decisive resistance, Bastrykin noted.

Statistics for the first six months showed an increase in the number of criminal cases on corruption, compared to January-June 2023. The number of criminal proceedings in this area increased by 14%.

On Tuesday, August 6, Vladimir Demchik, former head of the Russian Defense Ministry's clothing department, was arrested. He is suspected of receiving a bribe of 4 million rubles.
