The German company Wintershall Dea has initiated arbitration proceedings against the Russian Federation.

The organization intends to protect its rights to Russian assets through the courts.

This was reported by the TASS agency with reference to information distributed by Wintershall Dea.

According to the administration, Russia allegedly violated its own obligations to Germany. They concern the protection of investments, as well as the Energy Charter.

In this regard, representatives of Wintershall Dea went to court to protect the interests of their shareholders and the legal position of the company.

It is noted that Wintershall Dea acted as one of the financial investors in Nord Stream 2 and also had a 15.5% stake as a shareholder in the Nord Stream gas pipeline operator.

At the same time, back in January 2023, the company announced that it was winding down its business in Russia.

After special economic measures were introduced in 2024, Russian legal entities were created to manage the Severneftegazprom and Achim Development projects.

Wintershall Dea has shares in the management of these projects, but cannot participate in their management.
