US Justice Department Says Iranian Intelligence Service's Attempt to Kill Trump Was Thwarted

Washington has stated that Iran was involved in the assassination attempt on Donald Trump.

Individuals associated with the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) were involved in the operation.

The US Department of Justice announced this, Reuters reports.

The agency has formally charged Farhad Shakeri, who is described as an IRGC agent.

The 51-year-old defendant is believed to be in Iran. Two of his accomplices, who are US citizens, have been detained in the United States.

Shakeri is described as an agent who recruited and supervised individuals involved in surveillance and assassination planning, including Donald Trump.

Shakeri could face up to 100 years in prison on all charges.
