Representatives of the European Commission (EC) commented on the arrest of the founder of Telegram in Paris.

The criminal prosecution of billionaire Pavel Durov is being carried out under French law.

The EC reported that the current EU Digital Services Act (DSA) cannot be used for arrests and criminal prosecution, RIA Novosti reports.

Therefore, the decision to detain and arrest the businessman was motivated by points of French criminal law.

Representatives of the European Commission explained that in Durov's case it is permissible to rely only on national or international laws that relate to criminal prosecution.
