An underwater vehicle expert testified in court in the case of the sunken bathyscaphe Titan.

Karl Stanley tells the story of the man who created the infamous device.

The witness said he was well acquainted with billionaire Stockton Rush, Fox News reports.

This man founded the OceanGate company and built the Titan bathyscaphe.

Stanley said Rush had foreseen the tragedy. The billionaire had suggested that the dive would end in death sooner or later.

But this did not bother him. Rush believed that if this happened, he would not have to answer for the mistakes he made.

Stanley said the billionaire took risks and was not afraid of death because he wanted to "leave his mark on history."

It's all about his background. His ancestors included two of the United States' founding fathers: lawyer Richard Stockton and physician Benjamin Rush. Their signatures are on the Declaration of Independence.

The creator of "Titan" also dreamed of fame and stopped at nothing.
