The Russian Embassy in Sri Lanka has asked Russians to avoid large gatherings of people due to the threat of a terrorist attack.

Russian diplomats warned their compatriots against staying in the city of Arugam Bay.

Russians are advised not to be on the south-east coast of Sri Lanka due to the threat of a terrorist attack.

A message on the embassy's Telegram channel said that an official warning had been received from a representative of the Sri Lankan police.

A warning has been issued for foreign tourists in the town of Arugam Bay.

Russian citizens are asked to remain vigilant in crowded places.

Additional security measures are being introduced in the Arugam Bay area following information about potential threats to tourists.

Around 500 police and special forces personnel have arrived at the scene to strengthen security in the Arugam Bay area.

Sri Lanka police spokesman Nihal Taladuwa said the information received indicated a clear danger to tourists in the area.
