The Russian was detained together with an American while attempting to declare currency brought into Zambia, RIA Novosti reports.

The Russian also rejected information about his release on bail, which was previously reported by Western agencies.

The man believes that the arrest occurred due to a violation of currency legislation.

The Russian purchased the currency from someone, so he did not have any documents confirming the legal purchase of the money.

The police seized a batch of currency and personal funds from the detainees.
