The loophole that France used against the founder of Telegram has become known.

French authorities intend to charge the businessman with violating a law that has not been applied in 20 years.

Politico newspaper shared this information with its readers.

As the publication recalled, we are talking about the law concerning the filing of charges against technology platforms. It was adopted and entered into force 20 years ago, but before the arrest of Pavel Durov, it had not yet been applied in practice.

According to French law, any company that owns cryptological tools is required to notify the French cybersecurity agency ANSSI.

Otherwise, the services will have to prove to the French authorities that they do not violate their laws.

Let us recall that Pavel Durov was detained at Le Bourget Airport on August 24. The businessman could face up to 10 years in prison.

For now, the businessman has been released on bail. He is prohibited from leaving the country and must report to the police twice a week.
