Romanian police have carried out a major operation to uncover illegal trafficking of weapons and ammunition.
During the operation, about 300 weapons and more than 90 thousand shells were seized.
The items were purchased by citizens through a foreign online store, TVP World reported.
On Friday, police reported conducting 316 searches in different counties of Romania.
It turned out that a foreign company was selling weapons to Romanian citizens.
The delivery was carried out by courier services. The weapons entered the country bypassing customs.
As a result of the operation, police discovered and seized 299 weapons:
During the investigation, police suspected more than 300 people of illegally purchasing weapons, issued 316 search warrants and questioned 80 people.
Investigators will determine what role suppliers, couriers and, possibly, buyers played in this scheme.
