Dunedin Airport in New Zealand has imposed a three-minute limit on hugs in the passenger drop-off area.

A sign for travelers reads: "For longer goodbyes, use the parking lot."

The decision has sparked much discussion on social media, CNN reports.

Some users criticized the new rule, considering the restriction inappropriate.

The airport's CEO, Daniel De Bono, commented on the situation.

He noted that airports around the world are places of strong emotions.

De Bono cited research showing that a 20-second hug is enough to release oxytocin, known as the "love hormone."

He believes that fleeting hugs allow more people to say goodbye.

The airport parking lot offers a free stay of 15 minutes.

Passengers will be able to spend more time with their loved ones before departure.

Airport management is confident that the new rule will help improve passenger flow and properly organize farewell hugs.
