New air traffic controller strike: flight delays in Antalya could become permanent
Turkish air traffic controllers have announced an extension of the strike, which has already ruined the holidays of thousands of tourists.
Antalya airport workers have said they will go on strike until their demands are met.
They are seeking improved working conditions, higher wages and an expanded range of benefits, Turizm Güncel reports.
For this purpose, two strikes were organized, which lasted from June 7 to 17 and from June 20 to 30. Airport employees adhered to the so-called "work without initiative" rule.
Air traffic controllers performed only those duties specified in their job descriptions and did not take on additional functions.
As a result, the airport in Antalya slowed down by 50%. This led to massive flight delays.
Planes that were supposed to land circled around the airport for 1-2 hours, waiting for permission from the ground.
A new strike will begin on July 3 and last until at least the 14th if the authorities continue to ignore the workers.
The unions say they are prepared to extend the strike indefinitely until their demands are met.
Earlier, tourists were told about dangerous traps during their holidays abroad. There are four laws, the violation of which can result in huge fines.
