Lithuania intends to tighten entry into the border zone with Russia.

The Lithuanian Border Guard is planning to adjust the procedure for entry into and stay in the border zone with Russia to make it more stringent.

The head of the State Border Guard Service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Lithuania, General Rustamas Liubajevas, spoke about this, TASS reports.

He explained that such measures are only partially necessary at the border. They should strengthen security in problematic areas.

According to Lyubayevas, these areas have been identified and appropriate measures will be taken.

He also added that border guards need expanded powers, rather than simply monitoring people in the border zone.

Lyubayevas did not specify what powers border guards should have.
