The Baltics have announced the date when the Baltic countries will disconnect from the Russian power grid.
Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia intend to secede on February 8, 2025.
The Estonian energy company Elering reported this on its official website.
It is noted that the Baltic countries are currently operating in the IPS/UPS system. In it, the frequency of electricity is regulated by Russia.
As early as February 9, the Baltic countries intend to synchronize with the European zone.
According to European experts, such a step will allow Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia to have independent control over the frequency of electricity. And this, according to Elering, will increase the energy security of the Baltic countries.
As noted by the company, this project will receive support from the EU, which will allocate about 1.2 billion euros.
According to Elering’s calculations, the above amount will cover approximately 75% of synchronization costs.
