A German man served 13 years in prison for a murder he did not commit.

Now Manfred Genditsky intends to sue the state for a substantial sum in compensation for moral damages.

This was reported by the RIA Novosti agency with reference to German media.

Manfred Genditsky was convicted of murdering a woman in the building where he worked as a superintendent. The jury found that he had hit the victim and then drowned her in her bathtub.

It was later revealed that the convicted man was not involved in the crime, and he was released.

It is noted that Genditsky had previously received compensation in the amount of more than 369 thousand euros. The government paid him about 75 euros for each of the 4916 days that the unjustly convicted man spent in prison.

However, the victim considers the amount of the payment to be insufficient, since it did not cover all the damages incurred by him and his partner.
