The foreign publication Financial Times has published information that German Chancellor Olaf Scholz has agreed to release Russian Vadim Krasikov for the sake of US President Joe Biden.
It is emphasized that for a long time Berlin did not want to include the said Russian citizen in the relevant list.
The Financial Times reports: “Scholz told Biden that he was trading Krasikov for him.”
According to the publication, the corresponding conversation between the two heads took place during a telephone conversation.
It is emphasized that after the telephone conversation with Scholz, Biden told US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan: “Do it.”
The German Chancellor himself stated that the need to release Krasikov is a difficult step for him.
A Russian has been charged in Germany with the murder of Chechen field commander Zelimkhan Khangoshvili. The crime, according to German authorities, was committed in 2019.
The return of Russian citizens who were imprisoned abroad took place yesterday, August 1. The former prisoners were personally met by Russian President Vladimir Putin.
