'Dr Death': Surgeon Removes Man's Liver Instead of Spleen, Mixes Up Organs of Two Other Patients

An American doctor performed three operations during which he mixed up the patients' organs.

A surgeon from the state of Florida demonstrated astonishing incompetence.

Thomas Shaknowski performed the operation to remove his spleen, The State reports.

The doctor's colleagues said that he had removed the patient's liver. He placed the organ on the table and said that he had removed the spleen. But it was obvious to everyone except the doctor that this was not true.

At that moment, the man began bleeding heavily on the operating table. They tried to save him, but the patient died.

This happened in August 2024, and in October, investigators found out that Shaknowski had previously carried out two more operations, during which he also mixed up the organs.

So, in May 2023, he removed part of the patient's pancreas instead of the adrenal gland.

A month later, the surgeon was supposed to perform an operation on the woman's intestines, but instead performed a gastric resection. The patient died from the consequences of this operation.

After the third incident, the doctor was taken seriously. His license was revoked pending an investigation.

Colleagues say Shaknowski should not be allowed to work with patients because he does not have basic knowledge of anatomy.
