The Chinese Navy's leading submarine sank shortly before setting out to sea.

Beijing denies this information, but a number of Western media outlets report on the emergency, citing high-ranking sources in the US Department of Defense.

The ship in question is the latest Zhou-class nuclear attack submarine. The submarine sank near the city of Wuhan, Reuters reports.

The same information is being disseminated by major publications The Wall Street Journal and Associated Press.

It is noted that this did not happen in the fall, but either in the spring or summer. The estimated dates are the end of May or the beginning of June.

The emergency occurred at a shipyard near the city of Wuhan. Shortly before the incident, the submarine was seen at a pier on the Yangtze River. The submarine was being equipped to go out to sea.

Satellite images indicate that cranes were sent to the scene in early June, presumably to lift the submarine.

There is no information about the reasons for the incident. There is also no information about the injured or victims.

There is little information about the incident because China does not confirm this information and generally denies reports that the submarine sank.
