When a banana taped to a wall sold for $6.2 million at Sotheby's, the art world was shocked.

The $6.2 million price tag was paid by cryptocurrency mogul Justin Sun, who said in a statement that the banana bridges the worlds of art, memes, and cryptocurrency.

Sun wrote on his personal blog that he would eat a banana as a sign of respect for the work and its place in cultural history.

The Comedian art object was first seen in 2019 at an art fair in Miami. Italian artist Maurizio Cattelan glued an ordinary banana bought in a supermarket to the wall.

Some experts saw a joke and provocation in this work, while others saw a profound idea about the value of art as such.

Cattelan's Comedian work has been compared to the paintings of Marcel Duchamp, who was critical of traditional art.

Cattelan himself said that his banana on the wall is a reflection on value in art and life.
