Not far from the British capital, a rusting time bomb is about to explode.

London is under threat from a tsunami, with the danger coming from the sunken World War II 'Doomsday ship' in the River Thames.

The ship's holds are filled with explosives, the mass of which, according to various estimates, ranges from 1,400 to 3,700 tons, reports the Daily Mail .

The American military was transporting it to France. When the emergency occurred, the sailors did not have time to transfer the explosives to another ship.

The USS Richard Montgomery sank in 1944. The destroyer has been lying on the Thames for 80 years, rusting.

The masts, which still stick out of the water, serve as a reminder of it. They want to dismantle them to eliminate the possibility of collapse and detonation of the dangerous cargo.

Experts have suggested that the blast wave could be so strong that a tsunami could hit London. The ship itself lies at a depth of about 15 m.
