Authorities in the German city of Erfurt want to spend 2.5 million euros to relocate 39 hamsters
The authorities of the German city of Erfurt are planning to spend 2.5 million euros.
A large sum of money will be spent on the relocation of 39 wild hamsters.
The city authorities' decision was reported by the Thüringer Allgemeine newspaper, which cites plans by the head of the city's construction department, Matthias Berwolf.
It is noted that the city administration intended to expand the European School, but encountered unforeseen difficulties.
A colony of 39 common hamsters was discovered on the site allocated for construction.
Therefore, it was decided to relocate the animals, which are listed for conservation purposes, before the construction plans could be implemented.
According to preliminary estimates, the implementation of the master plan for the relocation of rodents could cost 2.5 million euros.
The City Planning Department is busy preparing the relevant document.
The construction of the school campus is planned to begin no earlier than 2026. The cost of the project is preliminarily estimated at 35 million euros.
