A 47-metre yacht carrying tourists caught fire and sank off the Italian coast.

The incident took place in the Gulf of Olbia on the island of Sardinia.

16 people from Turkey were vacationing on the luxury superyacht Atina, writes The Mirror .

The ship's owner, businessman Serkan Borancili, was also on board. He is the co-founder of the "super-fast" food delivery service Getir.

The fun was interrupted by the smell of smoke. It turned out that a fire had started in the yacht's engine compartment.

The yacht was moored near the shore, so the passengers and crew were quickly evacuated.

The vessel burned and then sank. The yacht's value is estimated at $18 million (about 1.6 billion rubles).

The crew and tourists were not injured. The cause of the fire has yet to be determined.

An investigation will be conducted into the incident. Boranchyly's company confirmed that the co-founder lost his yacht due to an emergency off the coast of Italy.
