Today, Orthodox believers honor the memory of Saints Peter and Fevronia.

Among the people, this celebration is called the Day of Peter and Fevronia.

In Rus', on this day it was customary to leave behind all household chores and worries and strive to spend time with loved ones.

Saints Peter and Fevronia were born into noble families. However, despite their princely status, they were devout Christians and treated Orthodoxy with respect.

Peter and Fevronia lived in Murom at the turn of the 12th–13th centuries AD. They did a lot for the Orthodox inhabitants of Rus'.

Even today, believers call these saints patrons of families and lovers.

Peter and Fevronia are known above all for the fact that, even being devout Orthodox believers, they treated each other with great respect and reverence.

Harmony and love always reigned in the union of these saints, as is told in numerous chronicles that have survived to this day.

What you shouldn't do on Peter and Fevronia Day

On this day, many people followed certain rules:

  • did not do baking or sewing;
  • do not pick flowers, especially daisies;
  • did not work in the garden or vegetable garden.

It was on July 8 that it was considered a grave sin to commit ungodly acts, namely, to do handicrafts. Otherwise, according to beliefs, you can seriously get hurt.

What can you do on Peter and Fevronia Day

Today it is recommended to start the day with a prayer to the Higher Powers. In particular, it is worth visiting a church and praying for a solution to family problems.

It is also worth refraining from such rituals as the wedding ceremony.
