Among the people, this celebration is called the Day of Moscow Euphrosyne.

In Rus', on this day it was customary to hide from the rains, as they were torrential.

Saint Euphrosyne, named Evdokia in the world, was the wife of Prince Dmitry Donskoy.

The couple's marriage was a happy one, and many spoke of them as an example of an ideal family, where husband and wife live in perfect harmony.

Also, the married life of Evdokia and Dmitry ultimately became the guarantee of union and peace between Moscow and Suzdal.

The future saint outlived her husband. However, after his death, she decided to go to a monastery. Having taken the tonsure, Evdokia called herself Euphrosyne.

Today, the saint is considered the patroness of Moscow, to whom modern people offer prayers asking her to protect their family and children from all evil.

What you shouldn't do on Moscow Euphrosyne's Day

On this day, many people followed certain rules:

  • did not swim, especially in open water;
  • did not wash clothes, did not wear dark clothes;
  • did not lend money or make large purchases.

It was on July 20 that it was considered a grave sin to commit ungodly acts, namely, to lie, envy or intimidate. Otherwise, according to beliefs, one could lose happiness.

What can you do on Moscow Euphrosyne's Day

Today it is recommended to go to church and ask the Higher Powers for health for yourself and your family.

In addition, you should devote more time to your relatives, especially children.

It is also worth spending the evening working on your garden plot, harvesting cucumbers.
