Boris and Gleb Day: What can and cannot be done on this holiday - note for Orthodox Christians

Today, Orthodox believers honor the memory of the holy believers Boris and Gleb.
Among the people, this celebration is called the Day of Boris and Gleb.
In Rus', on this day it was customary to work actively in the field or garden.
Boris and Gleb were the sons of Grand Duke Vladimir Svyatoslavovich, who was famous for converting Rus to Christianity.
The brothers were born shortly before the said event, but already demonstrated great commitment to Christianity and Christian beliefs.
After the death of Prince Vladimir in 1015, Boris and Gleb found themselves embroiled in a brutal civil war.
Boris was supposed to take the place of the ruler, but by deception it went to Svyatopolk, who seized power in Kyiv.
The son of Vladimir Svyatoslavich was supposed to kill the treacherous usurper, but he refused to lead his army against Svyatopolk.
Instead, Boris announced that he would not raise his hand against his relative, Svyatopolk.
The latter, deprived of honor and having saved his life, eventually treacherously killed both Boris and Gleb.
What you can't do on Boris and Gleb Day
On this day, many people followed certain rules:
- did not work in the garden or in the field;
- did not go for a walk, fearing a thunderstorm;
- didn't look at the lightning.
It was on August 6 that it was considered a grave sin to commit ungodly acts, namely, to show greed. Otherwise, according to beliefs, one could bring poverty upon oneself.
What can you do on Boris and Gleb Day
Today it is recommended to hold a wedding ceremony or a wedding. This day is favorable for this.
In addition, you should start preparing supplies for the winter.
It is also worth inviting your loved ones to visit you and having a pleasant evening with them.
