Virologist explains who is especially at risk from metapneumovirus
Metapneumovirus is especially dangerous for children under one year old.
This was warned by Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Scientific Director of the I.I. Mechnikov Research Institute of Vaccines and Serums Vitaly Zverev.
He also noted that the risk group includes elderly people suffering from chronic diseases, reports the Parliamentary Newspaper .
According to Zverev, no specific treatment for this virus, like other acute respiratory viral infections, has yet been determined.
Apart from symptomatic treatment, nothing else is recommended in this case.
At the same time, experts say that the virus will not turn into a pandemic, despite isolated cases of death from this disease.
Given the situation, it is advisable to wait for more detailed data about this disease before making any definite conclusions.
Cases of metapneumovirus infection have been recorded in China, Malaysia, Hong Kong and Kazakhstan.
Rospotrebnadzor stated that the situation with the increase in the incidence of metapneumovirus in China is being monitored and controlled.
