Scientists have concluded that sitting for 8.5 hours a day can speed up aging by 10 years.

Researchers conducted an experiment to find out how a sedentary lifestyle affects health.

It turns out that those who sit a lot are at risk of encountering problems with the cardiovascular system and metabolic disorders, writes PLOS One .

Even intense physical activity after work does not always help.

Physically active participants in the experiment, it turned out, still remained at risk.

Intense exercise for 30 minutes a day improved health. However, exercise cannot fully compensate for the harm caused by sitting for 8 to 16 hours a day.

Scientists recommend reducing the time spent sitting at work.

They recommend using standing desks more often and holding meetings while walking.

Using these approaches will help improve health and slow down aging.
