Scientists have found that good sleep improves immunity by increasing growth hormone levels.

Eight hours of sleep a night can improve the "learning" ability of immune cells in humans.

Sleep promotes the migration of immune cells called T cells to the lymph nodes, according to a paper in the journal Brain, Behavior, and Immunity .

Scientists were able to find out that patients who got eight hours of sleep or simply lay in bed had higher levels of growth hormone and prolactin hormone, as well as better contact between T cells and the CCL19 protein.

Notably, during sleep, T cell migration toward the inflammatory chemokine CCL5 remained unchanged.

Moreover, incubation of cells with plasma from a sleeping person led to an increase in CCL19-directed migration.

Scientists attribute this effect to the transmission of growth hormone and prolactin signals.
