The significant increase in cases of myopia among minors in recent years is not accidental.
Russia entered the top three leaders in this indicator after Japan and South Korea.
Head of the ophthalmology department of the Lapino Clinical Hospital Natalia Kalinina told RIA Novosti about the alarming trend.
She explained that more and more patients return to ophthalmologists with the same problem after vision correction surgery.
Kalinina also said that myopia has become more frequently detected among minors.
According to the study, glasses or contact lenses are recommended for 85% of children in Japan and 73% in South Korea.
In Russia, 46% of minors are found to be nearsighted.
Ophthalmologists from the Russian Federation believe that the main factors influencing the return of myopia are heredity and the educational process.
Doctor Kalinina stated that the mass return of myopia after vision correction has been observed especially frequently in the last five to seven years.
