How to properly care for your skin in summer

18.07.2024 18:00

In summer we want to spend more time outdoors, do outdoor sports and, of course, sunbathe.

But active solar radiation can negatively affect the skin and accelerate its aging.

In this article, we will talk about proper skin care in the summer so that the skin remains moisturized, radiant and healthy, says Nailya Shigapova .

Complete hydration starts from within

Yes, skin care should start with sufficient hydration of the body. It is important to drink water during the day, and in the summer the amount of water you drink should be increased by about 30%. If you forget to drink, you can download a special application that will remind you to drink water every 20-30 minutes.

Sun protection

The sun's rays contain ultraviolet (UV) radiation, which is the number one cause of skin aging.

Therefore, the first and most important step in skin care in summer is to use sunscreen with a high level of UV protection (minimum SPF 50+).

Apply it to your skin 30 minutes before going outside and reapply every 2-3 hours. By the way, there are several myths about SPF that it's time to stop believing!

For example, there is an opinion that dark or tanned skin does not need sun protection, but this is not true! The optimal solution would be to use SPF with at least 30+ protection.

Moisturizing cream

Staying in the sun can cause dehydration of the skin. To avoid this, apply a light, non-greasy moisturizer, fluid or lotion daily that is quickly absorbed. If you have dry skin, I recommend adding a moisturizing toner, which is applied with a cotton pad immediately after washing.

Skin cleansing

In hot weather, skin can become oily and prone to breakouts. I think many people are familiar with the unpleasant oily shine, and if you use cosmetics in the summer, your skin “stops breathing.”

Therefore, regular skin cleansing is the most important step in skin care in summer! Use a soft gel or foam for washing to remove excess sweat, sebum, dirt and dust. You need to wash your face twice a day - morning and evening.

Skin exfoliation

For smoother skin and an even complexion, exfoliate regularly. Use a gentle body scrub and enzyme face powder to remove dead skin cells and stimulate skin renewal. However, be careful not to use these products more than once a week.

Time spent in the sun

Although the sun provides benefits in the form of vitamin D, prolonged sun exposure can be harmful to your skin. Try to limit your time in the sun, especially during periods of maximum intensity (12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.).

By following these simple rules, you will help your skin stay healthy and hydrated.

Don't forget to also consult with a dermatologist or cosmetologist for personalized recommendations and products that are best suited for your skin type.
