Without proper care, currants are unlikely to produce a good harvest.
Over time, the soil can lose nutrients and become depleted, which affects the health of the plant.
Agronomist Anastasia Kovrizhnykh explained what can be applied to currants to improve their yield.
In particular, oats can be used for this.
The green manure biomass of oats should be laid out in the trunk circle of the bush. Other plants can be added here, including mustard.
The height of such a mound should be about 10 or 15 centimeters.
This procedure is usually carried out in the fall. Firstly, it will help protect the roots from freezing.
Secondly, during the winter period, the green manure mulch will decompose.
Thanks to this, the necessary nutrients will get into the tree trunk circle.
Currants also need to be fed in the spring.
For this purpose, you can use nitrogen fertilizers. You can get by with one additional feeding.
As soon as the leaves begin to bloom on the bushes, you can apply such fertilizers.
Earlier we talked about how to rejuvenate currant bushes.
