When planting radishes on their plots, most summer residents try to use various tricks.

Therefore, it is worth taking a closer look at how and when it is best to plant radishes in order to ultimately get an excellent harvest.

When to start planting

The optimal time for planting radishes in spring is when the soil warms up to +5°C. This usually happens in April-May, depending on the climate conditions of the region, says Anastasia Kovrizhnykh .

You shouldn't rush with planting, because it can lead to the loss of the harvest. Of course, it's a completely different story if you have the opportunity to plant it in a greenhouse.

Soil preparation

Many people forget that preparation is key. The soil must be:

1. Easy.
2. Loose.
3. Fertile.

It is also worth paying attention to its drainage properties. If moisture is retained in the soil, you will definitely not be able to grow radishes.

The whole point is that due to high humidity, rotting processes can begin.

Radishes prefer light, loose soils with good drainage. Before planting

Planting depth and spacing

Radish seeds should be sown at a depth of about 1-2 cm, keeping a distance of about 2-5 cm between plants.

This will allow plants to develop and form root crops without competition for resources.

Care after planting

After planting, radishes need to be watered regularly, especially during dry periods. Ensuring sufficient moisture helps prevent the formation of a sharp taste and improves the quality of the root crops.

You can feed radishes once every 2-3 weeks with fertilizers rich in phosphorus and potassium to promote the formation of strong roots.

Caution should be exercised with nitrogen fertilizers as they can cause serious damage to crops.

Harvesting

The optimal time for harvesting is when the roots reach a diameter of 2-4 cm.

The collected radishes should be thoroughly cleaned from the soil and used in cooking fresh or for canning. As a rule, this happens after 3 weeks, when the shoots have appeared.

Subsequent landings

To ensure a continuous supply of radishes throughout the season, it is recommended to replant every 2-3 weeks.

This will help distribute the harvest throughout the ripening period. However, if we consider summer cultivation, it is important to use a different technology.
