Proper care is very important in the process of growing strawberries.

However, some mistakes in caring for this plant in the spring can have a negative impact on the yield.

Agronomist Anastasia Kovrizhnykh spoke about this in more detail.

We leave last year's mulch

Plant mulch brings many benefits to plants. However, it is better to remove it in the spring.

After all, various pests could overwinter in it.

Also, at positive temperatures, this humus can continue to decompose. As a result, it will acidify the soil.

We apply fertilizer too early

Some people even start to sprinkle urea on melted snow.

However, there will be no benefit from this, because this product “does not work” at low temperatures.

So, at temperatures up to plus eight or even plus ten degrees it is not absorbed.

The same applies to the introduction of phosphorus. It is also necessary to take into account that some of the fertilizers may "leave" with melt water.

Excessive haste in applying organic fertilizers can also be harmful.

We start mulching early

There is no need to rush with this either. If you do this before the beginning of May, you can only do harm.

Mulch can slow down the heating of the soil. In addition, various root fertilizers can settle on it.

We are actively loosening the soil

In spring, it is useful to loosen the soil around the strawberries. But it must be done correctly.

The soil in strawberry beds can be loosened to a depth of no more than five centimeters.

Otherwise, the roots may be damaged, which will cause the plant to take a long time to recover.

Earlier we talked about what needs to be put in the hole when planting potatoes.
