Currant is an unpretentious plant.
But for a good harvest it is important to plant it in the right place and choose suitable “neighbors”.
Agronomist Anastasia Kovrizhnykh explained what should not be planted next to currants.
You shouldn't plant different types of currants next to each other. They can be affected by the same pests and are susceptible to similar diseases.
As a result, due to one affected species, other bushes may suffer.
Raspberry will be a bad "neighbor" for currants. These plants can be susceptible to similar diseases.
Moreover, raspberries can grow very large and deprive currants of the necessary space and nutrients.
Currants will not grow well near cherry or apple trees. These trees can create shade, which will prevent the bushes from getting enough light.
It is advisable not to plant shrubs near the plum tree. The root system of this tree can grow horizontally, interfering with other plants.
A good "neighbor" for currants would be strawberries.
Just make sure to leave a small distance between them so that the bush does not deprive the strawberries of light.
You can plant various vegetables and greens near the currants.
Such a neighborhood will be useful for them. At the same time, currants can repel some harmful insects from them.
