Fertilizing strawberries in spring is one of the main guarantees of an excellent harvest in the near future.
And if you add nutrients correctly, then your plants will delight you with large and deliciously sweet berries.
Together with the expert of the online publication TUT NOVOSTI, agronomist, landscape designer Anastasia Kovrizhnykh , we figure out what kind of fertilizers strawberries like.
Strawberries are fed several times: immediately after the snow melts, during the formation of buds and during the formation of ovaries.
Each period requires the application of different fertilizers, as well as care of the bushes.
During the first feeding in March, it is important to remove old and dried leaves, and also trim off excess tendrils. The mulch is removed, the soil is loosened and nitrogen-based fertilizers are added so that the strawberry plant increases its vegetative mass.
During the second feeding, strawberries need potassium, which they can get from purchased fertilizers or from improvised means:
And the last step on the way to getting a choice harvest is adding boron during flowering, which stimulates fruit growth. To do this, buy boric acid in powder, dilute it in water and apply it early in the morning or late in the evening: this will help avoid sunburn.
