Cherry trees need to be shaped and pruned.

You just need to do it correctly so as not to be left without a harvest.

Agronomist Anastasia Kovrizhnykh explained what mistakes should be avoided when pruning cherries.

How not to trim

Some people make the first pruning at the meter level, removing the buds that are located below.

The second one can be at the level of one and a half or two meters. But in this case, it will be quite difficult to collect the harvest without the help of a ladder.

It is also important to remember that cherries can bear fruit at the ends of last year’s growth.

But sometimes gardeners make a mistake by cutting off growth that should eventually bloom.

How to trim

To begin with, the seedling should be cut into five or six buds. Moreover, it should be cut at a height of about 30 cm.

It is also important to count the number of buds. The cut should be made above the bud.

You need to leave about four branches that grow in different directions. They also need to be cut to five or six buds.

The next step is to remove the branches growing inside the crown.

Afterwards, as the branches age and grow, they can be replaced.
