Subtleties of watering plants in hot weather: recommendations from an agronomist

All summer residents know that you can’t water plants in the hottest part of the day, but the recommendations don’t end there.

Water is the basis without which no plant in the garden will survive for long. Plantings can survive without fertilizing or loosening, but without moisture they have no chance.

Hot weather is a challenge for gardeners, because during this period plants require more attention.

Expert of the online publication TUT NOVOSTI, agronomist Anastasia Kovrizhnykh shared her recommendations.

Watering plants in hot weather

First of all, you should consider the type of soil. For example, sandy soil on a hill is saturated with water differently than black soil in a lowland. In the first case, more water will be consumed.

Watering in hot weather is done in the evening, when the sun's activity is minimal. You can do this early in the morning, but it is more effective to water the plants in the evening.

During the night, the moisture will have time to be absorbed well and the plants will receive a supply for the whole day while the sun is “baking”.

If you water in the morning, there is a high probability that in a couple of hours the water will evaporate under the scorching rays. Less useful.

It is better to water every day if the weather is hot. Ideally, the soil should always be slightly damp. Therefore, watering should be thorough, the water should penetrate the soil deeper than 3-5 cm.

The main lovers of water in the garden are cucumbers. This plant has the hardest time if there is a moisture deficit. Cucumbers need to be watered both at the root and by sprinkling.

But this plant should never be watered with cold water. It is better to put water in a barrel in the morning, which will heat up to the optimal level during the day.
