Summer residents and gardeners are often concerned about the question of whether it is worth spending time on autumn whitewashing of trees.

However, there are several compelling reasons why it is worth taking the time to do so.

Together with the expert of the online publication TUT NOVOSTI, agronomist, landscape designer Anastasia Kovrizhnykh, we figure out why autumn whitewashing is needed.

Why whitewash trees in autumn

Sunny days in February and early March are considered the most dangerous for trees. They lead to the appearance of so-called "sunburns" or frost cracks on tree trunks and branches.

Autumn whitewashing does not protect trees 100% from this scourge, but it helps to significantly reduce the risk of damage.

This is why it is necessary that whitewashing be applied in the fall, and not in the spring after the most dangerous period has passed.

In addition, the presence of a protective layer on the surface of trees helps to disinfect damage that appears on the bark and helps reduce damage from rodents, pests and other factors.
