Orchids can be called one of the most popular indoor plants.

What to do if the roots start to grow out of the pot?

This problem needs to be dealt with immediately, because the consequences can be catastrophic, says Anastasia Kovrizhnykh .

Lack of space

Orchids are active root growers. If your orchid has grown beyond its current pot size, the roots may begin to grow outward in search of more space.

Unsuitable soil

Using the wrong soil or not enough soil can also cause the orchid roots to grow out of the pot.

Orchids prefer a light, breathable growing medium, so using soil that is too dense can lead to a lack of ventilation and root problems.

Redevelopment

Sometimes orchid roots may emerge from the pot after repotting. This may be because the roots were not positioned correctly or were damaged during the process.

Root damage

Root damage can be another reason why they climb out of the pot. This can happen due to improper care, overdrying or overwatering of the soil.

What to do if the orchid roots have grown out of the pot

There are several options for solving this problem:

1. Transplant to a more suitable place. Of course, this method can be called the main one.
2. Checking the condition of the roots. You need to carefully examine the roots of the plant. If there is damage or rot, they must be cut off, pre-treating the roots.
3. It is also worth thinking about proper care. This includes: watering, proper lighting and good ventilation.

If necessary, support rods or sphagnum can be used to secure the roots.
