Lots of flowers means lots of fruit? Actually, that's not quite true.
Experienced gardeners are not touched by the abundance of flowers on fruit trees. They get rid of some of them.
An expert of the online publication TUT NOVOSTI, agronomist Anastasia Kovrizhnykh explained why this needs to be done.
The root cause is related to the fact that the plant spends a large amount of resources on growth, flowering, and fruiting.
If there is a balance between the amount of nutrients and the ovary, then there are no problems. There will be no competition for nutrition.
If there are too many ovaries, a struggle begins. As a result, a large number of small fruits grow, which, in addition, have low nutritional value.
This is the very case when it is not quantity but quality that decides.
It is also important to remove the ovaries from young trees and those weakened by disease.
In the first case, the tree will direct all its efforts towards forming a strong root system and vegetative mass.
A damaged tree will spend resources on recovering from the disease.
Work can begin when the buds have formed. There is no need to wait for the flowers to bloom and the petals to fall.
But there is an important nuance that is relevant every spring and in early June. It is necessary to exclude the possibility of recurrent frosts.
If no more cold weather is expected, you can remove the excess ovary.
You can also wait until the tree itself begins to shed the ovary. The process may be too abundant, so the gardener will not have to do anything.
