Thujas are considered to be fairly unpretentious trees, unless we are talking about young seedlings.

It is the latter that require increased attention, especially before the onset of cold weather.

If you want to ensure that your plant survives the winter, then remember the mistakes you should not make.

Mistakes when covering thuja for the winter

The first mistake is the wrong thickness of mulch. It should be at least 15 cm to protect from frost, but not more to allow enough air to pass through.

The second mistake is using a rope, which can damage the bark and crown. To protect them from deformation, it is better to use a bandage or covering material cut into wide strips.

Another common mistake is tying the tree too tightly. If you tie the tree too tightly, it will start to rot in the spring.

Another thing that harms the thuja is ignoring the fact that it needs to be protected not only from the cold, but also from sunburn. Therefore, you need to choose a material that warms and protects from ultraviolet radiation equally well.
