It's already possible: how to determine when it's time to dig up potatoes

August is the time when summer residents and gardeners begin to think about digging up a new potato crop.

Let's figure out what criteria indicate that it's time to do this.

When to harvest potatoes

Let's start with the fact that the harvesting period must be chosen as accurately as possible. If you harvest the potatoes too early, their skin will be too thin, therefore, the harvest will not be preserved.

And if you postpone harvesting until later in the hope that the tubers will grow larger, then you may not find them at all, since the plant's tops die off quite quickly.

Potatoes are harvested after August 25, but you need to prepare for digging in advance.

A couple of weeks before this date, it is necessary to begin loosening the soil between the rows. This procedure is carried out once every five days so that the potato skin becomes rougher faster and it is better preserved.

If the vegetable tops are still green, then they need to be artificially dried before harvesting so that the nutrients pass from the greens to the tubers.
